Our History

The North Salem Nursery School was founded in 1968 to fill the need for quality preschool education in North Salem and neighboring communities. Now in our sixth decade, we continue to be a focal point in our field and the source of long-cherished relationships in the community.  We are sponsored by St. James' Episcopal Church and operated by an autonomous board of directors on a non-denominational basis.

Our Philosophy

We believe that children learn best through enjoyable activities that are developmentally appropriate at various levels of skill. By creating an environment in which mastery may be achieved by each child as he or she becomes ready we are able to give our students confidence in their ability to succeed.  We are dedicated to the welfare, happiness, and success of each child.

The Facilities

Classes are held in our newly renovated, fully equipped school rooms.  A large hall upstairs provides an area for games, dance, and other activities requiring more space. A new, modern kitchen makes cooking a frequent and enjoyable activity. Our playground is furnished with swings, slides and climbers, playhouses, a large sandbox, and a variety of riding toys.  It is protected and spacious, offering excellent opportunity for outdoor play.
